Rescue Me ID: 17-01-21-00400Petey (male)

Shih Tzu Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Howdy! My name is Petey and I was dumped and abandoned in a fenced-in lot by my previous owners in an older area of Sumter. My rescue, Carolina Helping Paws Rescue, took me in, vetted me, and gave me foster home with lots of food, playmates and love! I am a sweet boy with a medium to long coat. My foster mom thinks that I am a rat terrier/Shih Tzu mix but not 100% sure. My foster mom says that I have plenty of energy and seem to get along with my fur-brothers. After hours of playing, I just love to sit with my humans in the recliner or couch while I re-energize. I am not big on licking your face but I will show my love to you in other ways. ... (Read More)I will sleep in the big bed with my humans all throughout the night without any problems. I an such a good and well-behaved southern boy. My foster mom says that I am not quite totally housebroken, I am a work in progress but I am crate trained. I love going outside numerous times a day and I am well acquainted using a doggie door. I do best if I am taken outside as soon as I wake up in the morning, after eating and occasionally throughout the day and before going to bed for the night. Mom doesn't feed me after the dinner hour so I do not have any accidents during the night. I love to go for walks but could use some leash training. I tolerate being around other dogs and kids. I am not bossy and not a dominant male, but I am aggressive if you give me a little something extra in my food dish (treats, canned food, etc.). I do best if given treats from your hand. My foster mom has not really seen me playing with toys, as I spend my time playing with my fur-brothers. I do not bark much but I will alert you to strange sounds I hear. My foster mom says that I have a strange under-bite but otherwise, I am as healthy as can be. I would be great being in a home with a fenced-in back yard. If you are looking for a companion for yourself or for another fur-baby in your house, then your search is over! I am so easy to fall in love with that I would definitely make someone a great companion! I am 1 year old, 13 pounds of love, neutered, healthy, heartworm negative, UTD on all of my shots. Please go to or website carolinahelpingpawsrescue.org and fill out our application and email back to us at carolinahelpingpawsrescue@gmail.com. P.S. I totally adore belly rubs.... (Less)

Black and Tan Coonhound Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

These precious 7-8 week old babies are available for adoption. We like to wait until 8-10 weeks normally, but we are accepting applications since we never know how long unti their forever family finds them. We aren't sure of their mix, Lab/Hound, possibly. We do know one thing for sure, there is a whole lot of cuteness!!! These little ones were saved from being feral and unaltered. We can't stop all the madness in this world, but we will do our part to make sure none of our rescues contribute to the over population in this world. It is definitely puppy and kitten season and it seems we have a lot of these little ones. They have had been ... (Read More)vetted, given their first vaccines, treated for fleas and given worm medicine. They possibly will be on the larger medium to larger breed size. We are told the mom weighed about 80 lbs and that is not her healthy weight, so they definitely won't be on the small size, but that will be good...a whole lot more doggie to love. Adoption fee is $180.00 and inlcudes a neuter voucher to our vet for surgery when he is 4-6 months old. An application can be downloaded in MSWord format or cut and pasted into an email from our website: carolinahelpingpawsrescue.org and emailed to us: carolinahelpingpawsrescue@gmail.com (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-05-07-00430Kit (female)

Akita    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet out girl...Kit..She is an Akita and is looking forward to having a family to call her own. She is spayed and utd on shots. She is around 4-5 years old and is absolutely a beauty. She is heart worm negative and is on heart worm prevention. According to her foster: She's great in the house, with other dogs and kids. Great on the leash, needs some command training (sit, stay). She is very smart and will need lots of attention. Some of the down side is that she hates to be alone, mildly terrified of cats, panics in a storm. She can and will hurt herself to escape a fence or crate if she is afraid. She enjoys walks and must be walked. She ... (Read More)sleeps well in her crate at night (depending on the weather) and goes in without a problem. She doesn't like a bath, but she's easy to handle, really doesn't like her feet or butt touched. She doesn't bite, even when upset. She only barks appropriately. Believes herself to be a lap dog. We are hoping that she can soon find her own family, she has been deprived of this for 5 years and it is time for her to know the love that can be shared to her and by her. if you are interested in giving this well deserved girl a forever home please go to our website:carolinahelpingpawsrescue.org and fill out an application and email back to us at carolinahelpingpawsrescue@gmail.com Her adoption fee is $180. Rescue Me ID: 16-01-08-00010Bonnie Belle (female)

Pointer Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Hip Dysplasia

Bonnie Belle is a very special dog and needs a very special adoptive family. Bonnie came into our rescue with hip dysplasia and had been accidentally stepped on which causes her knee ro become deformed. But despite the pain, Bonnie is sweet and loving. She loves people! She is so sweet and loves toys. She would do well in a family with older children, not that she has EVER done anything to a small child, we only know how she is with children 6 years and up. The best comfort level for her would possibly be only dog or only one other dog in the family. She doesn't want to be stepped on again. She is heartworm negative. Utd on shots and ... (Read More)spayed. She has been in a wonderful foster home and is needing to find her forever home. Hopefully one who has the financial means to provide the surgery she needs. Our estimates were over $500 and our fundraising efforts have failed her as Sumter has a depressed economy. She is around 3-4 years old. If interested contact us on Facebook or on our website for an adoption application. www.carolinahelpingpawsrescue.org Please help us get this sweet girl back to full function and no pain and placed in a great family! Her adoption fee is not set as we really need to get her surgery completed. A home visit and vet reference is required. (Less)

Poodle Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Blind

Meet Paxey!!!!!! This little guy was found in the woods by some kind people. To prevent him from goign to Animal Control, we picked him up and took him to the Vet where he stayed overnight and they gave him a hair cut. How different he looks. They said he was a good boy, but cataracts have taken his vision. He did not potty in his kennel the whole night, he whines when he needs to go out, walks well on a leash. They said he was a sweet, sweet dog, but he can't be startled or picked up without talking to him and letting him know that you are going to pick him up. When he is frightened he will growl and snap because he isn't sure about what is ... (Read More)happening, or going to happen. We need a special person for a 'special need' fur baby. Possibly with no young children who might startle or try to pick him up. Please, open your heart and home to Paxey. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-10-30-00495Dakota3 (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

We saved Dakota from a high kill shelter as she was running out of time. We were told she had possible kidney stones and was urinating blood and needed out ASAP per shelter vets documentation, with surgery needed to remove the stones. She was utd on shots, spayed and good with other dogs per shelter, which we have since discovered she certainly is protective of her humand and isn't really friendly towards other animals. We immediately took her to the vet and upon examination, and x-rays he told us he couldn't justify doing surgery, because he did not feel or see any stones. Dakota has begun her heart worm treatment and is doing great with ... (Read More)her foster. Dakota will continue on her heart worm treatment, and will be spayed very soon. She is listed as Border/Collie/Lab. Chocolate, born 3/23/2013. She was an Owner surrender at a high kill shelter. She is available for adoption but must complete her heartworm treatment & spay surgery. She probably would be better in a home by herself, or with just one other dog. Previous owner said on intake sheet, she likes children (probably older children, not unsteady toddlers), dogs, cats and livestock, but we believe she would need re-introduced to other animals prior to adoption. Her breed is very protective and needs a strong human leader in the household. Download an application at our website: wwwcarolinahelpingpawsrescue.org (Less)
